What to Expect as a New Dental Patient

Getting your first dental exam at Mounts Dental Care is exciting! As a new patient, it’s nice to know what to expect. By understanding what your dentist will do, you can help ensure that you receive the best care possible.

New Patient Form

You will first need to fill out a new patient form. You can print out the form online or fill it out at the office. The new patient form asks about your dental history, your general health history and insurance information, among other things. Please be sure to bring your pertinent information if you plan to fill the form out at the office.

The Introduction

After you’re seated for your appointment, you’ll meet several staff members who will work together to ensure you have a great visit. You’ll meet your oral hygienist, your dentist and other supporting staff.

When your dentist in North Little Rock, AR begins, he will ask if there are any immediate concerns that you have. This is a time when you can bring up things you’ve noticed, such as bleeding gums, a tooth that is loose, or something else. During your exam, your dentist will pay especially close attention to anything that you’ve brought up.

The Exam

You will be given a comprehensive oral exam. The exam may include a set of full-mouth x-rays, as well as a thorough assessment of your mouth. You may be asked about your dental health history and about any medications you may be taking. Your dentist will check for signs of gum disease, tooth decay, and any signs of oral cancer.

You will also be asked about your goals for your smile.

Treatment

Your dentist will work with you to develop a treatment plan that fits your needs based on his findings. You may simply opt to have your teeth cleaned on this first visit. Additional treatment may also take place on this visit if there are immediate issues, or future visits may be needed to take care of ongoing problems.
